Abstract
A series of 1,280 eyes was studied by applanation and Schiøtz tonometry by nine ophthalmologists. The values obtained with the Goldmann applanation tonometer were higher than the Schiøtz values in 84% of eyes. A difference of 5 mm Hg or greater was found in 19% of eyes—nearly one out of five eyes examined. It is urged that all ophthalmologists exchange routine Schiøtz tonometry for the more accurate Goldmann applanation tonometer.
