Abstract
Saliva was gathered from individuals with normal periodontal conditions and from individuals suffering from periodontal disturbances. The rates of putrefaction of the salivas were measured and compared. Putrefaction was detd. by measuring the rate of hydrolysis, production of indole, sulfides and odors. Changes in pH, EC, EH and RH were determined. The rate of hydrolysis, and the production of indole, sulfides and odors, were much greater in the saliva from individuals with periodontal disease than in saliva from normal individuals, but differences in pH, EC, EH and RH were not statistically significant.Keywords
