Abstract
An initial series of experiments was performed to evaluate a near-field nuclear waste repository performance assessment model developed by P. L. Chambré, T. H. Pigford, and others at the University of California, Berkeley. Good agreement was found between the model and the experimental simulation at relatively high flow rates compared to those expected in an actual repository. At lower flow rates, surface mass transfer was enhanced over the model predictions due to an experimentally induced buoyancy mechanism. Keywords
