Abstract
The location of the 5.8S rDNA within the internal transcribed spacer has been found by restriction and sequence analysis. These analyses indicate the deletion of a dinucleotide from the known rRNA sequence. Regions to the 5′ and 3′ of the gene contain both uncommon sequences and palindromic structures which might provide potential control points. A secondary structure model is suggested for the 5.8S rRNA incorporating the flanking sequences. Keywords
