Production and Release of Sex Attractant by the Female Indian-Meal Moth, Plodia interpunctella123

Abstract
In Plodia interpunctella (Hübner) females, the sex attractant was first detected in pharate adults. Newly eclosed adults contained a concentration of attractant comparable to that found in 1- to 5-day-old adults. Mating had no effect on the concentration of extractable attractant. Virgin females released attractant almost continuously during their adult life, while mating and certain anesthetics greatly decreased subsequent release of attractant.
