Metabolism of Injected Proline in DDT-Poisoned German Cockroaches

Abstract
The normal free proline content in male Blattella germanica is 1.2 mg/g. After injection of 2 ml of 20% aqueous proline solution, the body content declines from 20 to 5 mg/g in 24 hours. Topical application of 20 [mu]g of DDT lowers the proline content to 25% of normal in 12 hours. In proline-injected cockroaches DDT poisoning almost doubles the rate of metabolism (clearance) of the excess proline.
