Cytological Studies in the Genus Zygnema

Abstract
Eleven species of Zygnema were studied cytologically. Chromosome number was determined, and observations were made of the nucleolus and nucleolar organization, nucleolar substance, prophase chromosomes, spindle organization, the meta-phase chromosomes, and centromere organization. Most species appear to be high polyploids and aneuploids with a basic number of about 20.
