Trichiniasis in Dogs and Cats of Iowa

Abstract
During the period of March, 1954, through December, 1957, 521 dogs and 50 cats were examined for Trichinella spiralis. Ten % of the dogs and 6% of the cats contained trichinae. Infections, as indicated by larval counts, were generally light, although a few heavier infections were found. A definite increase in the incidence of infection was found in the older groups of animals. There were no differences indicated in the occurrence of trichiniasis as far as sexes or breeds of dogs were concerned.
