Abstract
In western Alaska, counts of red salmon on the spawning grounds are made from aircraft. Techniques employed in making counts and characteristics required in the aircraft are described. Permanent records of spawning populations are made by taking vertical aerial photographs in index areas at the same approximate time each year. Filtering and processing techniques and altitude-speed tables are presented. Accuracy of census by this method exceeds that of any other used.
