Abstract
Nitrate storage, as shown by the diphenylamine-H2SO4 test, was studied, usually in the thallus, in several specimens of 3 species of Chlorophyceae, of 23 Phaeophyceae, and of 60 Rhodophyceae. The reaction varied in the green algae, and some specimens of Codium tomentosum were very strongly positive while others were negative. Most of the brown algae showed no nitrate storage; and a certain species (and genus) specificity for or against storage appeared in the red.
