Amygdalectomy and Social Behavior in the Caged Stump-tailed Macaque (Macaca speciosa)

Abstract
Species specific patterns of social behavior and environmental factors may be influential in determining the effects of amygdalectomy in subhuman primates. Amygdalectomy seems to produce less social disorganization in Macaca speciosa than in M. mulatto or Cercopithecus aetliiops. This may be related to their characteristically greater degree of positive social interactions than in the other species studied.
