Isotope effect and precision measurement on the 23S1-33P0 transition of helium

Abstract

The isotope shift for the 2³S₁→3³P₀ transition between ³He and ⁴He has been measured with a laser heterodyne technique to a precision of 3 ppm. The comparison with accurate theoretical prediction allows to discriminate between ³He nuclear radius values differing of 0.1 fm.
