Abstract
The hematoxylin-phloxine B-Alcian blue-orange G (HPAO) staining procedure has been utilized in a retrospective study and reappraisal of cutaneous biopsy specimens from 17 patients with carcinomatous metastases to the skin. In seven of the 17 cases the procedure yielded additional information (of major importance in two cases and minor importance in five cases) which was not previously available. The HPAO staining procedure appears to be a useful auxiliary tool for the further study and appraisal of cutaneous metastases which are not clear-cut in hematoxylin and eosin stained sections. Keywords
