Hypervalent Iodine Chemistry: 25 Years of Development at the University of Thessaloniki

Abstract
In this Account we review the reactivity of organic hypervalent compounds through reactions developed mainly at Thessaloniki University over the last 25 years. A number of the reactions discussed were not previously covered adequately in review articles and books. After an introduction and a general brief discussion on structure and reactivity, we examine some early work of ours involving transformations of miscellaneous substrates using (diacyloxyiodo)benzenes. Then, we discuss various aspects of the chemistry of iodonium compounds, including salts, ylides and 1,4-dipoles.
