Abstract
The single injection technique for testing was used on 48 subjects on whom the volumes of distribution of glucose and insulin were measured simultaneously. These measurements by the method used could only be taken as apparent, not true, values. In relation to true volume, the apparent volume of distribution is lower the higher the rate of disappearance of glucose from the blood. The true volume of distribution of glucose is approximately 40% larger than the volume of distribution of insulin. The values for the true volume of distribution of glucose in man are consistent with the volume of the extracellular compartment. Keywords
