Abstract
Heating of Tokamaks by Alfven waves is examined for a hot multiple ion-component plasma. The majority ions determine the dispersive properties of the waves while the minority ions and the electrons determine the damping. Ion heating can exceed electron heating for only a few per cent minority-ion concentration if the Alfven resonance is near the centre of the plasma. The result is of interest for deuterium-majority tritium-minority reactors. Keywords
