Abstract
The Fogarty balloon catheter is an instrument which greatly facilitates arterial thrombo-embolectomy. However, it should be used with gentleness and care, particularly in relation to the lower leg vessels. The peroneal artery is particularly susceptible to damage, and arteriovenous fistula formation may result. Even though the incidence of damage is low, when it occurs the morbidity produced may compromise an otherwise satisfactory result. Keywords
