Abstract
Electronically excited carbon atoms, C(21D2), generated by the pulsed irradiation of carbon suboxide in the vacuum ultra-violet, have been monitored photoelectrically by time-resolved atomic absorption spectroscopy. The decay of this atom in the presence of a number of molecular gases has been investigated, yielding the following second-order rate constants: [graphic omitted] The results are compared with data for C(23PJ) and C(21S0).Keywords
