Abstract
A model is developed in which the moment on a nickel atom is a function of atomic environment through its susceptibility and of magnetic environment through exchange interactions. Solution of this model leads to a fit of change of moment with concentration and, with the assumption of first-neighbour interactions, a further parameter-free fit to both polarized and unpolarized diffuse neutron scattering data. A detailed analysis of the Ni-Cu and Ni-Cr system is presented. Keywords
