Influence of degree of training and prior reinforcer magnitude on contrast effects and resistance to extinction within S.

Abstract
Studied simultaneous contrast effects of reinforcer magnitude and subsequent resistance to extinction within S as a function of between-Ss variation in degree of training and prior reinforcer magnitude. Ss were 72 naive female albino rats. Contrary to some expectations neither the simultaneous contrast effect nor the within-S effect of reinforcer magnitude on extinction behavior was influenced by overtraining beyond perfect or near-perfect choice discrimination. In accord with related data, the simultaneous contrast effect was influenced by prior reinforcer magnitude but resistance to extinction was not.
