PHASE COHERENCE OF FREQUENCY MODULATED MÖSSBAUER GAMMA RAYS

Abstract
Frequency modulated sidebands in the spectrum of a Mössbauer source mounted on a piezoelectric crystal are known to be symmetrical. It is shown here that inclusion of a frequency modulated resonant filter into the system should result in unequal in tensities of corresponding positive and negative sidebands when the source and filter are modulated in antiphase. This asymmetry has been obtained previously but not commented upon and is more significant at low modulation indices
