Complications of Injecting Dissolved Methylphenidate Tablets

Abstract
The parenteral injection of dissolved methylphenidate hydrochloride tablets provoked a cutaneous reaction in 16 patients who chronically used drugs. Biopsies from five patients showed foreign body reactions to talc or cornstarch. Pulmonary granulomata were seen in two patients who died as a consequence of drug abuse, and one patient with bacterial endocarditis on the tricuspid valve had talc granulomata in portions of the valve removed at surgery.
