Abstract
THE INCIDENCE of cerebral actinomycosis is infrequent. In a few clinical reports found in the literature, it has been often bracketed with cerebral nocardiosis because of their many clinical similarities. Yet, these 2 are distinctly separate diseases. They differ from each other as both from tuberculosis. Prior to the advent of chemotherapy and antibiotic therapy, cerebral infection byActinomyces boviswas invariably fatal. Since 1949, 9 survived cases of antinomycotic brain abscess, including the 2 of this report, have been recorded in the literature.1,2,3,5,6,9 The present communication concerns a report of 2 instances of actinomycotic brain abscess and a review of literature, with particular reference to the selection of antibiotics in the treatment of this condition. Report of Cases Case 1.— A 45-year-old, right-handed grocery clerk was admitted to the hospital on Aug. 10, 1958, with a history of frontal headache, dizziness, unsteady gait, and difficulty in speech
