Urinary incontinence associated with a diverticulum of the bladder neck in a dog

Abstract
Extract Although the causes of urinary incontinence in the dog are numerous ( Kirk et al., 1968 Ardran, G. M. , Cope, V. , Essenhigh, D. M. and Tuckey, M. 1967a. The primary vesical sphincter. Brit. J. Urol., 39: 329–333. [Google Scholar] ) no report of its association with a diverticulum in the region of the bladder neck can be traced in the literature, nor has this latter condition been reported. Diverticula, however, do occur in other parts of the urinary tract of dogs, being found both in the fundus of the bladder ( Kirk et al., 1968 Ardran, G. M. , Cope, V. , Essenhigh, D. M. and Tuckey, M. 1967a. The primary vesical sphincter. Brit. J. Urol., 39: 329–333. [Google Scholar] ) and in the ischial urethra following ischial urethrotomy ( Goulden, 1966 Ardran, G. M. , Cope, V. , Essenhigh, D. M. and Tuckey, M. 1967b. Observations on the function of the bladder neck and urethra in the dog. Brit. J. Urol., 39: 334–340. [Google Scholar] ).
