Discipline in American Education: An Overview and Analysis

Abstract
This article presents a broad overview of the problems of school discipline. The term is defined within the context of American society with discussions of anthropological, historical, legal, and developmental factors which help to frame the final section of the paper. The last section offers a framework for conceptualizing the training of teachers and presents brief examples and reviews of research of at least one approach for each conceptual category.Keywords
