Abstract
A bivariate extension of the exponential distribution is proposed as a model for certain problems in life testing. It applies, in particular, to two-component systems, which can function even if one of the components has failed. Various statistical properties of the model are investigated, including maximum likelihood estimates of the parameters and their distributions. Keywords
