Abstract
The effect that nursery treatment can have on the survival and growth of trees after field planting is summarised into two basic concepts:- It is concluded that quantifying the quality of the nursery plants is by itself insufficient to obtain a meaningful model of establishment efficiency and that efforts to quantify the actual planting site are required. Only when both these aspects are considered can nursery efficiency culminate in the production of the correct quality of plant for a particular site. Keywords
