Abstract
Coronary heart disease is the greatest single cause of death in the Western world, although there is considerable variation between different populations. Large-scale, long-term studies have identified a number of complex and inter related risk factors, encouraging the development of preventive health strategies for heart disease. This article looks at the scale of the problem, and the risk factors involved, and reviews four well-known heart health programmes. Keywords
