Abstract
Ether soluble extracts from human colloid struma injected intrathyroidally into guinea pigs produced an inflammation which histologically resembled human thyroiditis. Similar changes were seen in rats after prolonged treatment with methylthiouracil. The reasons for these changes are still unknown, although the author postulates that it is due to a foreign body reaction caused by lipoprotein complexes of colloid or liberated fatty acids.
