Abstract
A fixative containing 5% chrome alum, 5% formalin and 5% mercuric chloride is capable of fixing the pituitary gland of the rat at room temperature overnight so that it can be stained with periodic acid-Schiff and with aldehyde-fuchsin, as well as the usual counterstains. The use of trivalent chromium in this fixative is of particular interest because of its importance in the cross-linking of proteins during tanning. Keywords
