Abstract
Despite the global spread of chloroquine-resistant Plasmodium falciparum over the past 30 years,1 chloroquine has remained effective for treatment and chemoprophylaxis against the other three plasmodium species affecting humans. A recent summary of two infections with P. vivax in Papua New Guinea, however, has suggested the presence there of parasites with reduced susceptibility to chloroquine.2 We report a case of chloroquine-resistant P. vivax from Indonesia in an American. Keywords
