Comparison of the K+ and K Decay Rates into the τ and Kμ2 modes

Abstract
The K+ and K decay rates into the τ and Kμ2 modes have been compared in an experiment at the Brookhaven alternating-gradient synchrotron. The results are Γ(K+π++π++π)Γ(Kπ+π+π+)1=0.0004±0.0021 and Γ(K+μ++νμ)Γ(Kμ+ν¯μ)1=0.0054±0.0041. The absolute decay rate for τ was found to be (4.496±0.030) × 106 sec1.
