Abstract
Monocytes from guinea pigs were infected with virulent human tubercle bacilli and the in vitro infection was compared with that in vitro infection was compared with that in monocytes from normal guinea pigs. There was no difference in rate of cell death and only minor changes in numbers of intracellular bacilli were noted between the 2 groups of cells. Evidence of intracellular multiplication of tubercle bacilli was found to be the development of intracellular cords.
