Abstract
Compulsory retirement is increasing so that about half of wage and salary workers who retire at age 65 do so because of compulsory retirement. Compulsory retirement is discrimination against an age category and prevents many older workers from continuing employment. Flexible retirement would better utilize the skills and experience of older persons and increase the income of the aged. It may also increase life satisfaction and longevity. The facts do not support most arguments for compulsory retirement. Keywords
