Abstract
Attributes which might contribute to the determination of fruit size in black currants have been examined. Poor pollination, leading to reduced numbers of seeds, can restrict fruit size without distorting fruit shape, but higher numbers of seeds are not necessarily associated with larger berries. Cultural conditions during fruit development can modify fruit size, with water an important factor. The concept of fruiting potential seems to be applicable to the black currant, and it is inferred from the data that poor cultural and environmental conditions during fruit development can lead to halving of yields without any visible symptoms of distress. Keywords
