Abstract
Seven radiation workers accidentally inhaled 125I vapours released from an open beaker. Thyroidal uptake was found by scintillation counting methods with both collimated and uncollimated NaI(Tl) crystal detectors. Retention studies were performed on five of the individuals. Exponential retention patterns were observed for thyroidal 125I activity. Effective half-lives ranged from 38 to 45 days, the average being 41 ± 2 days. Total dose values for the individual uptakes, computed by extrapolation of the retention data back to zero time, ranged between 1.1 and 109 rads. This paper describes the in vivo measurements, medical management and internal dosimetry calculations. Keywords
