Abstract
A general analysis is presented of transport in a binary mixture in the presence of a thermal gradient parallel to an electric field. From this, a simple analytic formula is derived for the thermopower of a binary mixture, correct to first order in the thermopower, in terms of the properties of the two components and the effective electrical and thermal conductivities of the mixture. Some possible applications of this formula to the analysis and interpretation of experimental results are discussed, with particular reference to hydrogenated amorphous silicon. Keywords
