Abstract
In view of the large disparities in the values of some rates of destruction of the excited (singlet) oxygen atoms , flash plotolysis of ozone in the presence of excess nitrous oxide has been used as an alternative source of atoms to measure relative rates of their reaction with a number of added gases. The values obtained for SF6, He, CO2, Xe, neopentane, and N2O are consistent with the earlier results from this laboratory obtained using entirely different sources of atoms. The relative rates of reactions with H2O vapor and O2 have also been determined and the values obtained are compared with the data in the literature.
