The magnetic Compton profiles of iron and cobalt

Abstract
The spin-dependent Compton profile of polycrystalline iron has been remeasured with 54 keV circularly polarised synchrotron radiation, data on cobalt were also obtained. In both cases the circularly polarised beam was extracted by viewing the tangent point at a small inclination to the synchrotron's orbital plane. The negatively polarised magnetisation contribution, which produces a characteristic central dip in the profile, remains twice as large as the prediction of an extended APW calculation although the high-momentum behavior is now well described. The data are in better agreement with a new KKR calculation and a recent gamma-ray measurement. Hexagonal cobalt shows similar low-momentum features.
