Hypophysectomy did not prevent the appearance of hyperhagia, disturbed water intake, and increased rate of body weight gain following ventromedial hypothalamic damage. However, the time course of these symptoms was different than that observed in Ss with ventromedial hypothalamic damage and intact pituitary glands. The hypophysectomized animals exhibited a significant increase in body weight gain during the first 6 postlesion days without increasing food consumption.
