Abstract
A technic for study of the mechanical properties of bones is described. Rats were rendered rachitic by a low-Ca diet. An anti-rachitic diet applied for 6 wks. was not sufficient to produce healing that would eliminate mechanical deficiencies in the tibiae when compared to litter-mate controls. After 65 days these deficiencies were generally eliminated. Partially healed rachitic bones show greater elasticity but less breaking stress than completely healed or normally developed bones. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
