Abstract
The design of SAW devices generally requires multiple properties (coupling coefficient, temperature stability) which are not simultaneously encountered in the most popular materials such as quartz or lithium niobate. Furthermore the emergence of mixed devices using optics and piezoelectronics on the same substrate will require dealing with semiconductors such as gallium arsenide. This paper reviews briefly some known properties of conventional crystals in terms of electromechanical coupling constant and frequency temperature coefficient. In addition, new results regarding “more exotic” materials such as chalcogenides (TI3VS4, TI3TaSe4), berlinite (AlPO4, and III–V semi-conductor (GaAs) are more completely reported. Keywords
