OBSERVATIONS OF SMALL DROP COLLISIONS

Abstract
Experimental observations of water droplets with diameters of about 35 μ show that collisions leading to coalescence are very rare and probably do not occur. At 45 μ diameter, collisions can occur. These observations support the theoretical paper of Hocking. Large electric fields are observed to play a prominent role in inducing coalescence for droplets of these sizes.
