Selecting Outstanding Faculty: Indicators of Quality

Abstract
Moore investigates indicators of faculty quality as perceived by deans of SCDEs. Data were collected by mailing a special ly constructed instrument to a sample of 243 deans of education. The instru ment was comprised of selected quality indicator categories: academic prepara tion, professional experience, personal qualities, documentation of teaching ef fectiveness, evidence of scholarship, ser vice activities, candidate's personal and professional development, and leader ship qualities. Responses were returned by 178 deans. Data were analyzed through the use of descriptive statistics. Eight criteria were ranked as the most important indicators of quality for initial employment. Those indicators were pre sented and discussed.Keywords
