Human Immunization with a Dermal Vaccine Cultivated on the Membranes of Chick Embryos

Abstract
A strain of anti-smallpox vaccine cultivated on the chorio-allantoic membranes of chick embryos was compared with the usual calf vaccine by tests on a group of non-immune persons. Results were almost identical. Using the chick vaccine, the lesions were milder, developed a day later, and contained less pus. In general, they caused less discomfort and left less scar tissue. Re-vaccination tests showed the equal reliability of the chick vaccine.
