Demonstration of Increased FDG Activity in Rosai-Dorfman Disease on Positron Emission Tomography

Abstract
Rosai-Dorfman disease, or sinus histiocytosis with massive lymphadenopathy, is a rare benign disease of unknown etiology that most commonly involves the cervical lymph nodes. Imaging with F-18 positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) has been widely accepted as an important diagnostic modality in the evaluation of patients with possible cancers. However, FDG is not a tumor-specific tracer, and numerous nonmalignant processes can result in increased FDG accumulation. We report the detection of Rosai-Dorfman disease by FDG-PET in a patient with suspected metastatic breast cancer.
