Abstract
An improved hydrometer was developed which differs from its predecessor in being more pronouncedly streamlined, having a duplicate scale on two sides which will greatly facilitate the hydrometer readings, a scale on the stem that extends to 5 divisions above zero, and stable dimensions. As a result of a recent recalibration of the hydrometer method, two series of hydrometer readings have been established, which give mechanical analyses that conform with both the new soil-particle-size classification of the U. S. Dept. of Agri., and with that of the Internat. Soc. of Soil Science. With the U. S. Dept. of Agri. classification, one hydrometer reading is taken at the end of 40 seconds and another at the end of 2 hrs. With the Int. Soc. of Soil Science classification, one hydrometer reading is taken at the end of 4 min. and another at the end of 2 hrs. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
