Effects of Solarization on Elm Spanworm Eggs (Lepidoptera: Geometridae)

Abstract
The elm spanworm, Ennomos subsignarius (Hübner), oviposits almost exclusively on the undersides of branches. Experimentation showed that this habit benefits egg hatch. Mortality from overwinter solarization in cardinal directions increased clockwise from north through west. No hatch took place when eggs were exposed toward the zenith; normal eclosion occurred among eggs exposed toward the nadir.
