Abstract
The preparation of a number of derivatives of the type Ru(CO)3(L)(SiRCl2)(X) and [Ru(CO)3(SiRCl2)(X)]2 (L = CO, phosphorus donor ligand; R = CH3, Cl; X = H, Cl, Br, I; not all possibilities) is described. The syntheses of M(CO)4(SiMeCl2)2 (M = Ru, Os) and mer-M(CO)3(PPh3)(SiMeCl2)2 are also reported. The pattern of substitution in the tetracarbonyl molecules is consistent with the SiRCl2 ligand as having a large trans-effect in these compounds. From a qualitative study of the rates of substitution, it appears the trans-effect of the SiMeCl2 ligand is at least comparable to that of SiCl3.Keywords
