Abstract
Chromosome number does not apparently provide any cytological criteria for the delimitation of the tribes and subtribes of the Umbelliferae which are taxonomically distinctive. Therefore, the possibility was presented of the existence of the cytological criteria for working out the delimitation of certain taxa. The role of chromosomal structural alteration in the evolution of different genera and species was noted. Ammi visnaga, A. majus, Vicatia conifolia, Eryngium foetidum, Sanicula elata, Selinum wallichianum, Cuminum cyminum, Chaerophyllum villosum, C. acuminatum, and Pimpinella heyneana were studied, and a literature review of other taxa was presented.
